The museum is structured in 7 rooms, differentiated by colors and historical stages:

  • Room 1: Natural Environment Room

Karstic forms and geological and paleontological wealth. The landscapes that surround us are the result of amazing geological processes that happened millions ago

of years. The sequence of these transformations has been engraved on the marl rocks, plasters, limestone, dolomites, the imprints of ammonites, hedgehogs persisting.

  • Room 2: Prehistory Room

The remains of the Stone-Paleolithic and Neolithic Age and Metal, Copper and Bronze Age are collected in the display cases. Prehistoric communities obtained from nature the raw materials (bone, wood, copper, flint, etc.) with which to make containers, dresses and useful for their daily life.

  • Room 3: Protohistory Hall

There are remains belonging to the Tartessian and Iberian period. We refer to the ceramic urn of the “Cruz del Negro” type of S. VII. (Orientalizing Period) Found on the hill of the Castle.

  • Room 4: Roman Room

Roman remains are exposed, the epigraphy being very interesting, demonstrating the importance of the Roman municipality of Ipolcobúlcola (Carcabuey) as well as press feet of oil mills, dolium-type ceramic containers, ceramic materials, etc.

  • Room 5: Mediaval Room

It consists of two sections; the Visigoth represented by metallic material and the Arab-Andalusi era and Christian era. It is complemented with 2 models of Castillo and Puente Piedra.

  • Room 6. Modern Room

It is specially documented with information panels, complemented by a vision of the baroque buildings and a model of the Church of the Assumption.

  • Room 7: Geopark: A mountainous territory in the heart of the Betic Cordilleras, where the ancient seabed of Tethys Sea is modeled by karstic phenomena. The series of mosozoic rocks house abundant remains of marine invertebrates. This is the kingdom of the ammonites. The Sierras Subbéticos natural park, since 2006 belongs to the European and global Geoparks networks, endorsed by UNESCO.
  • Contemporary Room: Corresponding room (XIX, XX, XXI) dedicated not only to the history and contemporary cultural heritage of Carcabuey but also to its identity and uniqueness (olive groves, orchards, festivals, traditions and gastronomy) and most importantly its people, among which stand out our illustrious Carcabulenses.
