Throughout history, Carcabuey Castle has been a privileged place from a strategic and military point of view for the control of all communication routes in the Subbética region, since the roads that served as communication to Five Andalusian provinces.

It rises on a rocky promontory that dominates the town and to which it gives its name, Cerro del Castillo, in which remains and vestiges of human occupation have been found in all historical periods, being able to go back in time until, at least , the Full Bronze as evidenced by the finding of a bronze sword (1200 to C) currently preserved in the British Museum in London or a ceramic urn of the Cruz del Negro type (800 to C) found in the Historical Museum of Priego de Córdoba.
