Margen Izquierdo del Pantano (Iznájar)
Starting point: At the end of the Agroman bridge (Iznájar)
End: Iznájar Reservoir Dam
Length:15 km one way
Time: 6 hours
The trail begins at the end of the Agroman bridge over the Embalse de Iznajar reservoir. The tour starts out with a climb of approx. 2.5 km offering magnificent panoramas over the reservoir and the town of Iznajar. Continuing on, the track begins to descend along the edge of the gully of the Arroyo de Gata stream, following a twisting path through both cultivated land and Mediterranean woodland. As the path begins to climb once more, the Arroyo de Gata is left behind to the right and you will be able to observe a number of water birds (cormorants, ducks, herons, seagulls and, with a little luck, spreys) before arriving at a natural viewpoint over the Iznajar reservoir (approx. 7 km into the walk), a good spot to relax and enjoy the landscape with the Sierras Subbeticas in the distance.
The descent continues on to the next gully at the foot of the Sierra de Cuevas de San Marcos. Here you can observe raptors such as the griffon vulture, peregrine falcon and common kestrel among others. Continuing the walk, the path leads toward the reservoir with the Sierra de Rute right in front of you. From here on the trail becomes easier running parallel to the shore of the lake before arriving at the dam wall.
