This itinerary is reached from the CV 61 path to Las Lagunillas, 1 km from Rute. At the beginning of the walk is one of the reserves that ADEBO (Association for the Defense of Donkeys) has devoted to recovering, among others, the Andalusia donkey the oldest breed in Europe.
Follow the track to the right to reach the highest points of this Sierra, the Cerro del Canuto (with the watch tower at an altitude of 7.041 m, built during the Muslim occupation) and the Sirra Alta (1.325 m). From these points there are superb views of Iznájar and the reservoir, the Sierra de Antequera and even, on a clear day, Sierra Nevada in Granada. Further along the path the Fuente Alta recreational Area comes into view, making an ideal spot for a rest, or if you prefer turn right to follow a path that leads to the ruins of Rute “El Viejo”, the original fortress settlement of the town’s first inhabitants. The walk ends in present-day Rute.
