The Sima (Chasm) of about 100 meters deep can be visited thanks to the access tunnel of more than 80 meters in length that has been created and thus contemplate one of the most beautiful geological formations of our municipality, the first one that can be visited through artificial means of Europe. The Sima forms part of the archaeological site of Cave of the Angel, an important pre-Neanderthal and Neanderthal Paleolithic settlement, with an age of between 400,000 and 500,000 years and the only one dating from Spain as a permanent hominid residence for more than 300,000 years. The vertical cavity was used as a waste dump for centuries, which has resulted in about 70 meters of both geological and human input fillings, a material that will be of importance for the scientific studies of the whole site. * Visit included in the tourist activity “Lucena Ancestral”, more information on the phone: 957 503662 or www.tuhistoria.org.
