The town has a long tradition of anise liquors and Christmas confectioneries that started in the 17th century. This long tradition and the current offer of great products make the visit well worth the while.

Part of the economy of Rute is based on the cultivation of olive groves, mainly of the hojiblanca variety, which produces olive oil of the highest quality. The sausages of the place are very famous and they can be tested in bars and restaurants along with the most popular meals and tapas (like migas, pizporrete, flamenquines, anchovies, …). The traditional and famous pestiños, puff pastries or piononos round out this great gastronomic offer.

Among many others, the most representative dishes of the gastronomy of Rute and the rest of the region are: salmorejo, oxtail, migas, stews, goat, flamenquín, orange salad, etc.
