Part of the Andalusian reservoir, known as ‘Lake of Andalusia’ is within Rute’s municipality; an ideal enclave for all kinds of activities related nature and water sports.
The main tributary of the Guadalquivir, the Genil river pours its waters to this reservoir, which was completed in 1969 and has an area of 2522 ha. With its capacity of 981 hm³, it is the largest in Andalusia.
At a distance of just over 5 km from Rute, there is the reservoir, which due to its potentialities and peculiarities is an ideal place for water sports or hiking, as well as an ideal area for fishing or bird watching, since it also has a great wealth of poultry and fish fauna.
