The municipality of Rute is not only reduced to its urban area, but the entire landscape, much of which is within the Natural Park of the Sierras Subbéticas, is dotted with numerous villages which give a very special character to our town and region. Villages that flourish here and there, splashing white all the landscape of our town, among which stand out Zambra , Llanos de Don Juan, La Hoz, Nacimiento de Zambra, Las Piedras, and Palomares. All of these villages have their own distinctive architecture, traditions, and heritage. Particularly noteworthy are the popular festivities of each of them. Christmas with the groups of mochileros opens the festive calendar, to continue with different celebrations such as the Fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen in Llanos de Don Juan and Zambra in August, festivities of the Virgen de Gracia with the traditional release of a heifer in Zambra, during the month of October, celebrations of the Virgen del Consuelo, with its traditional evenings of troubadours (“troveros”) held on September nights in La Hoz, as well as in Nacimiento de Zambra, whose major festivity is celebrated on May 1 in honor of San José Obrero, where this tradition of the troveros is also maintained. Finally, it is worth mentioning the Fiestas de San Isidro Labrador, one of the most famous pilgrimages in the region, held in May in Las Piedras – Palomares.
