River Genil riverbed

Ideal for active tourism activities (canoeing, rafting, bungee jumping, canyoning, etc.).

Bridge over the Genil River. The bridge that crosses the Genil River is one of the most important works of its kind in the province of Córdoba, and even in Spain. It has been declared a Cultural Heritage Site (BIC) because it was not common in the 16th century to build bridges of this magnitude and perfection. To achieve this, in addition to a great architect like Hernán Ruiz II, the chief master of the cathedrals of Córdoba and Seville, it required the generosity, foresight, and practical sense of a patron such as D. Diego de Bernuy, the first lord of Benamejí and its founder.

The bridge over the Genil River in Benamejí is a project by the Renaissance architect Hernán Ruiz II and, among his engineering works, is the only example of a completely executed new construction by himself.

The magnitude of this impressive bridge can be appreciated up close by walking along the paths that pass by its lateral arches.
