Kayaking
Kayaking is one of the water sports you can enjoy in the Subbética. It involves a canoe propelled by paddles, offering a very fun and unique nautical ride.
You can practice kayaking at Valdearenas Beach in Iznájar.
Paddle Surfing
Also known as Stand-Up Paddleboarding, this is a wonderful way to glide on the water using a paddle while standing on a surfboard.
An aquatic experience you will love.
This sport will test your balance and can be practiced at Valdearenas Beach in Iznájar, at the largest reservoir in Andalusia, also known as the Lake of Andalusia.
Sailing
Sailing is another option among the water activities in the Subbética that you can enjoy.
This activity runs from April to October and has several key features:
- Minimum age: 9 years
- Duration: approximately 3 hours
- Number of people: minimum 2 and maximum 4
- It’s a guided sailing tour on the Lake of Andalusia, where you’ll learn about the curiosities and history of the natural surroundings of the Iznájar Reservoir.
You can also rent the boat with supervision, take courses of 2 to 3 days, or participate in an initiation that includes both theoretical and practical parts.

Tourist Boat
Another activity you can do at the Iznájar Reservoir is renting the Tourist Boat:
- Between April and October
- Duration: approximately 2 hours
- Minimum age: no minimum age
- Number of people: minimum 2 and maximum 12
- Includes tasting of typical Subbética tapas

Rafting on the Genil River
River rafting is a fantastic activity that will get your adrenaline pumping, and it will refresh you and, of course, you’ll have fun 🙂
The course starts in Benamejí and ends in Palenciana.
You can do it with up to 7 different companies; just search on Google: Rafting on the Genil River and contact one of them to enjoy the most aquatic part of our region.
There are two levels, one for kids and one for adults 😉
Canyoning in the Genilla River
Another wonderful activity to cool off in the Subbética is canyoning in the Genilla River, in the municipality of Priego de Córdoba, in the heart of the Subbética Natural Park, featuring a 15-meter waterfall, a very fun slide, and a fantastic jump.

Route and Site of the Río La Hoz
A hiking route with a refreshing reward can be a wonderful option to enjoy our Subbética.
A few kilometers from Rute, heading towards Iznájar, there is a small village called La Hoz, with one of the most beautiful sites in the province of Córdoba, and of course, in our Subbética.
This is the Gorge of the La Hoz River, also known as “Salsipuedes,” due to the canyons and formations found in its limestone rock.
In this spectacular place of unique beauty, we can see small waterfalls and several cascades as we ascend the river.
Salto del Caballo Route
Another hiking trail features in the water activities of the Subbética, ending at a waterfall known as the Salto del Caballo.
The route starts at the “Puente de la Veguilla,” very close to the Almedinilla Museum, in the Fuente Ribera area.
Duration: approximately 1 hour, with a stop at the waterfall to cool off before returning to the town after immersing yourself in nature.
It is recommended to do it, in hot weather, early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
Arroyo de las Cañas Trail
In Palenciana is this stream, where you can enjoy a fantastic hiking route.
Duration: approximately 1 hour, with a refreshment at the stream.
Start: Camino del Molinillo.
End: Olive Oil Factory.
