The Anzur River.

Belonging to the Genil basin, this river, originating in the Subbética, is one of the most interesting in the Campiña Alta due to the state of conservation of its riparian vegetation. Its course is somewhat curious, as it describes a kind of "v" whose apex approaches the Genil but does not flow into it because the topography prevents it. At its source, near the famous Zambra spring, the Anzur flows accompanied by poplars, willows, and elms, which bring vivid shades of green amid the monotony of the surrounding olive groves. The landscape is further enriched with a grid of small plots, although these can be considered practically extinct due to the crisis in agriculture and the advance of the urbanization process.

As the river progresses, its waters receive inputs of urban and agricultural origin contaminants, such as products used in the treatment of olive groves. Sometimes, riparian vegetation sees its density artificially increased, with some reforestations of poplars hosting animals linked to both aquatic and forest environments. Thus, kingfishers, moorhens, or woodpeckers can be seen. Reeds are occasionally abundant and give their name to some farms, such as Dehesa del Cañaveral, although the dominant species in the gallery forest is the tamarisk, which gives rise to typical vegetation formations called tamarisks. These take on spectacular hues at the confluence of the Anzur and Lucena rivers, which in turn flow into the Cordobilla reservoir. Without a doubt, this species has the widest masses in the province, a true forest where the songs and calls of many birds can be heard.
