Arroyo de Priego Córdoba

The hamlet of El Arroyo de Priego is constituted by a dispersed population, located to the northeast of the municipality, between the "Loma del Santísimo" and the "Sierra de las Ventanas," along the stream that gives it its name. On the slopes of these hills, there are houses and farmhouses that represent a clear symbol of the traditional habitat of the rural area of Iznájar.

The Priego stream, a tributary of the Genil River, shows along its course a route of great landscape and natural richness, with a variety of native forest species typical of the Mediterranean forest, such as holm oaks, gall oaks, almond trees, pomegranates, fig trees, lilies, rosemary, saffron, orchids, daisies, broom, and others.

As for the most prominent elements of traditional architecture, there are some traditional farmhouses and some springs and small fountains now converted into wells, from which, until recently, the houses in the area were supplied with water.

The confluence of the stream's waters with the reservoir is an ideal place for fishing, and where one can also observe the wide variety of birds that have their habitat in the calm waters, such as ducks, cormorants, herons, grebes, sandpipers, seagulls, and others.

As an aspect of the popular and traditional culture, which still persists in the hamlet, the "matanza" (pig slaughter) stands out, a family and neighborhood celebration that takes place in the last month of the year.
